FRAGMENTS

i fabricate you through a jumble of vowels and consonants,

arrange the broken shards of you in rhyme and meter.

i think of every curve and dip of your body like the careful rhythm of poetry,

if i put these lines together, they'll make sense to me.

then maybe i'll understand you.

i paint your picture in my head

with adjectives and verbs.

string together metaphors and similes

to create a personification of a girl.

i try to construct a novel out of you,

or maybe even a short story.

i build you up with prepositions and conjunctions,

tear you apart in consonants and syllables,

re-write you over again in my mind.

but there's a twist in the plot,

and i can't seem to foreshadow

the cliffhanger you're becoming.

so for now,

i'll think of you in mismatched words,

in dangling modifiers,

in fragments.
